It’s crucial that we keep a firm grip on what we’ve heard so that we don’t drift off. (Heb. 2:1 MSG)
Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. (Heb. 2:1 KJV)
More than we are eager to learn something new, we must give more attention to what we have been taught. God expects us to be rooted and grounded in what we have been taught (Col.2:6-7).
We must review, rehearse, revisit, recall, reflect, remember and always remind ourselves of the words of our salvation and the elements of the gospel which gave birth to us (1Pet.1:23).
The things we have heard must become flesh: well-known and experienced; hence the need to give the more earnest heed (Col.3:16).
The apostle of love says in 1john1:1 “We write to you about the Word of life, which has existed from the very beginning. We have heard it, and we have seen it with our eyes; yes, we have seen it, and our hands have touched it.” (1Jo 1:1 GNB) That is the beauty of giving earnest heed, it let the word takes us over and become real to us. We grow deeper in experience and life. And it becomes difficult to be driven to and fro by winds (Eph.4:14).
The danger is “… lest at any time we should let them slip.” If this is not possible, Bible would not say so or mention it. Let us all beware and take it upon ourselves to put our whole being into the words of life we have heard. What have you heard? Selah.
