Before You Quit

Before you Quit…What You Need to Know and Do

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2

When you see someone who is supposed to be focused on something, say a degree for example, desiring something else, don’t be too quick to judge them. They might be going through a series of events  in their lives. It could be a re-evaluation, a transition, a legitimate distraction, mere self indulgence , or an attack. And it may just be that they are no longer able to see the joy that is set ahead of them. Sometimes, it may be a genuine divine disruption. Let us face it, we all come to that moment when the passion to go ahead is not just there. We feel dissatisfied with everything except other things different from what we have been known for or currently do. We get to that point when we need to see the joy that is set before us again. We need to see a convincing reason to keep going, and even if it means enduring the present cross. Seeing the Joy is very vital, even Jesus needed it!

Are you going through that moment in your life when you no longer see reason for doing what you were sure God wanted you to do? It is normal! It gets to everyone at different stages and times. You have come to your own junction, and you need strength to overcome. That strength can only come from the Lord through His chosen means. For me, I love to withdraw and read that Hebrews 12 to myself again and again. I love to pray and think at such times before rushing into any other thing. I want to ask God to help me see the joy set before me again. And He is faithful, He will make you see the joy again, awakening you to the things in stock ahead of you.

You may also need to speak out if the thought of quitting persists. You need to speak out to a trusted elder in the faith for two reasons: First, God may be truly speaking to you about something else, but you are not in the best position to determine that right now. Your mind is confused and distressed.  If you are very sure that it is mere boredom and that God is not asking you to switch gear, then you need to retreat and spend some time with God to refresh your vision and have your passion rekindled. And that does not preclude you from speaking out to an elder in the faith who can also be of help. The second reason to speak out is it may be an attack from the evil one against your destiny and the plans God has for you. Don’t let him have his way. Resist him prayerfully, and withdraw from anything he may be enticing you with. Put all your cares on the Lord and let Him bear your burdens. Trust Him with your life at this point. Finding time to communicate with an elder in the faith may be very crucial and helpful to your destiny at this time. Don’t take things for granted. Seek for help.

Above all, we all need that clarifying and re-assuring moments in our lives. A time when we need to repossess our vision and reclaim the things God has told us. We need to revisit and reactivate the vision God gave us for the life ahead of us and for the things He is asking us to do now in preparation for what is ahead. I join you in prayers today that God will rekindle His Fire in your heart again in the Name of Jesus. Amen.
