Obedience to the Lord can be likened to how discerning a person brings praise to God. For instance, discernment guides you into choosing God’s will above everything else. To be discerning is to know the genuineness, you don’t swallow lies for truth. Ananias and Saphira presented a part of the proceeds from their property to Peter as a whole, but Peter being filled with the Holy Spirit knew that they were lying. First, you need to be filled with the Holy Spirit to be discerning in every circumstance. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. If our Lord is the truth, then far be it from His children to live in lies. It is the will of God for you to live in the truth of God’s word. A discerning person does not make judgments based on hearsay; just like Peter did not settle down with what Ananais and Saphira presented to him. Discernment is an important attribute for making the right choices in life.

Discerning Good from Bad

It is interesting that a person will see a thief and call them good as though nothing is bad about their attribute. We need discerning men and women in leadership. Those who will bring justice to the poor in truth. As a child of God, living in these times, you must be able to separate good from bad to bring judgment. Fear of men has robbed a lot of believers of the operation of discernment in their everyday life. Foolishness is a joy to those who are without common sense, a person who walks in understanding walks in the light.

How do you know what to do?

To know what to do, ask God. Simply say, Lord what do I need to do now to prepare me for what is ahead of me? When there are no obvious deadlines on your schedule. Look inward to see what the inward man is saying to you. The Holy Spirit on the inside knows exactly what you should be doing because He and the Father God are one.

Knowing what to do is as important as doing it right on time to achieve excellent results. The men of Issachar knew what Israel needed to do at the time. There are one thousand and one things that you can do, at every given time. God does not want you to be in the dark about your life. He wants you to live with purpose in mind, with the understanding that your time on this side of heaven is short.

How do I know Good People?

The first thing is to define what you mean by goodness in your life. You need to be discerning to know people i.e. their intentions, who they really are, and why they want to do business with you.

Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time? Luke 12:56

The Lord expects you to be able to discern the season we are in as a church, nation, family, and kingdom. Note that Jesus has an agenda for you and everything else that pertains to you. Imagine that we run only one season throughout the year, I guess that may be boring. But God has given us four seasons; summer, fall, winter, and spring; there are specific tasks for each season. You must understand the season to know how to partner with God to see His kingdom come here on earth.

How to Gain Discernment

  • Choose to speak the truth at all times even if it hurts.
  • Let the love of God guide you.
  • Imbibe God’s word.

Confession

Father God, stir up discernment in me. I ask for understanding to discern justice in the government in every nation in Jesus’ name.
