Thine, O Lord is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all. ( 1 Chron. 29:11, KJV)
Victory is of the LORD, Praise God. All thanks to our God that victory is not for the strongest. The LORD alone wrought great victory. Since victory is of the LORD, He gives whoever pleases Him.
No one can claim victory except he has been to war against the enemy and has defeated them. There is no victory without a battle. Nation rise against nation, kingdom against kingdom in warfare, people against people, race against race, civil wars; we have seen all manners of war on earth, most times for a selfish interest. In the process of war, the weakest of the warring forces are often the first to feel the heat of the battle; this many times involve death and destruction of all kinds.
Fighting and war became part of the human race after the fall, the tower of Babel seemed to be the last thing that united us (Genesis 11). We have now become almost divided in all things, each seeking their own good and making it almost impossible to have a united front. We fight for our right – the right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and torture, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to work and education, and many more. Everyone fights for what belongs to them in this life. Yet the real battle is not flesh and blood, it is a spiritual battle, one involving Satan and the human race. It is the battle for the human soul.
Whether in physical or spiritual battle, victory is not usually determined by the capacity or the number of the soldiers but solely dependent on the God of victory. It is not always defined by past victories a nation or kingdom has had in time past; which means your record of victories is irrelevant in the face of a challenge. Victories are not necessarily won by sophisticated weapons. Victory belongs to God, and He gives whoever pleases Him. Permanent victory is secured by those who stand on the LORD’s side.
Many times, the enemy comes subtle to attack the believer; like Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it so that he could capture and enslave the people of Jerusalem (Daniel 1:1-3). The enemy creeps in when people are fast asleep. He comes to check that we are not on our guard, in order to fulfill his atrocities which are to steal, kill and destroy. This is what he is constantly doing in the world so that he can bring many to doom like himself.
King Jehoiakim was 25 years old when he assumed the throne of his father; he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. This king’s evil deeds made him an enemy of God. God detests evil and would not want to look upon it for He is holy, therefore the Lord gave Jehoiakim and and the people of Jerusalem into captivity, to serve Nebuchadnezzar in the land of Babylon. They were defeated by the opponent and thus became a subject to them. Someone’s evil deed could be responsible for defeat in a family or nation. Life is not about you alone, so you cannot just do as you like without thinking through. The aftermath of your actions may not be borne by you alone. If you do well, joy comes to your people and land, if otherwise, then expect the opposite.
Your deeds, choices, decisions, actions and character before the LORD matters a lot to you and the people around you as it determines what your experience in life will be. Many husbands today have brought calamity on their family due to disobedience to God and refusal to walk in His ways. Likewise many wives and children have opened the door for the enemies in their family. God is merciful and full of compassion, yet He is just. Search your heart and see if there be any evil in it, ask God to forgive you and cleanse you, so that you can continue to live a victorious life in God.
