Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised) Hebrews 10:23
What qualifies a man to be called a Christian is first of all his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. This true faith doesn’t only lie in believing in Jesus but confessing him. There are certain peculiarities of God that gives credence to our faith.
Our God is a God of words.
For every problem, God gives either a promise or a prophecy. It was a word of promise God gave Abraham when he was barren. Naaman the leper was given an instruction, God released a prophecy through his prophet Elisha when there was famine in Israel. In fact for those that will care to find out, God has a word over every situation and therefore when we come to him in prayer we must come with the knowledge and understanding of what he has spoken over our lives and that situation. God also gives instructions and directions which comes in form of words. However, because most times, his instructions don’t comply with common sense, we miss God’s offer for our lives. Only eternity can show how much of God we have missed because we didn’t take his words serious or because we felt we were wiser than his instructions. Naaman would have missed his healing if he had not put aside his ego and perceived wisdom. The first step in walking by faith is you must know God, understand how he works and be ready to cooperate with his words. If you embrace God as a God of words, and hold on to his words, you will be amazed how things will turn out for you.
God is faithful to his words.
Our anchor scripture tells us, God is faithful to his promise. His faithfulness to his promise is because God can never lie. Not that he won’t lie, but he doesn’t have the capacity to lie. Hence you can be assured that whatsoever he promises you, he will do. If your faith must work, you must have the right perspective about God. Hebrews 11:6 tells us “He that cometh to God must believe that he is…” You must believe that he is a God of words afterall He created all things by the spoken word and uphold all things by the word of His power, you must believe that He is faithful to His words. He is not a man that should lie.
Our responsibilities as believers is to develop our relationship with the Lord solidly to the point where His words come to us regularly and our faith is developed to believe Him and take Him for His words. Remember that every challenge a believer goes through is an opportunity for the Lord to be glorified. Pharaoh didn’t know the God of the Hebrews until he held them back from leaving Egypt. The God who has sent a word ahead of you is able to make you crossover. Halleluyah!
