Studying God’s Word – Part II

Desire the Sincere Milk of the Word
1 Peter 2:2
… as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,… (1 Peter 2:2, NKJV)
We can feed on the Word of God as a person, as a family, as a group, as a corporate body, as friends, with your children and with your spouse. We can study and learn from the Bible in different ways. We can study it by ourselves. This is a crucial discipline every child of God must put on. We must learn to study our Bible daily alone.
We should also study with our family members – our spouse, children, parents, siblings, and house helps, and other people living with us. It is a good and godly practice to study the Bible daily and regularly with our family members. Husband and wife should study the Bible together. Parents should study with their children. Siblings should study the Bible together. And very importantly, our house helps should not be left out of our Bible study.
It is also a good idea to study the Bible in a group other than our family. This may involve our friends, classmates, co-workers, neigbours, converts, and students. This is a great way to be a blessing to others and to turn men unto God, building up one another in the faith. This can also be a house fellowship that often take place in your home or at a free time in your work place or institution.
So what about studying the Bible as a corporate Body – a local church or assembly? It is a necessity. Bible admonishes us never to forsake the gathering of other believer. A corporate life in the study of God’s Word is not something we should undermine. We all must make it part of our lifestyle, routine and agenda to attend what is usually a weekly Bible study in most churches or a Sunday school. It is a divinely provided means for receiving nourishment from the Body.
Sometimes, we can go further to learn in a formal setting like a Bible School, a theology school or a seminary. This form of education is not meant for those who want to be a pastor or minister alone; but for everyone who wants to go deeper in his/her knowledge of God. Though, I advise that you choose what place you go to for a Bible Course with care so that you don’t mess up with your doctrinal life and faith. Some Bible schools do more harm than good; yet there are a lot of scripturally sound and spiritual Bible training centres all around the world that you can choose from.
One thing we must know is that God expects us to be committed to His Word, and we have several means to get involved as far as studying God’s Word is concerned.
